Up on railroad ties in the ambulance bay

In the bay where a small-town volunteer EMS crew parks its ambulances, a GE dryer has been in service since the 1990s at least. It sits on railroad ties, because the hose used to wash the rigs is right behind it and water pools on the floor. Mostly it dries the linens and towels that were supposed to go back to the hospital, and now and then a uniform. It recently needed a new belt. With the cabinet open, the EMT who did the job found little more than a shell that carries heat to a drum, with almost nothing that moves. The heating element keeps on working, which surprised the EMT.
