These came with the house: a Sears Kenmore washer and dryer from the Whirlpool series, built in 1979 and 38 years old when the post went up. They're a little noisy and they work. The family moved here from a two-bedroom condo that had a front-loading smart pair. The new place has four bedrooms, and its energy bill comes in about $80 under the condo's. The owner blames the condo's heating and cooling, which ran constantly, and says the old machines cost so little to run that their efficiency hardly matters.
