The best stove in the house is in the dining room

A company called Reliable built this stove about 90 years ago, and so far the name holds up. A renter in a big early-1900s house cooks on it every day. There's no cord on it anywhere. One pilot light burns in the middle, and it throws a little jet of flame out to whichever of the four burners is turned on. A standing pilot needs no electricity at all, so when the power goes out, supper doesn't. There are two ovens with the fire coming in between them, which is why the bottom one works mostly as a broiler. It sits in the dining room, not the kitchen. In a house like this the servants cooked in a small kitchen out of sight, and this stove kept food warm on its way to the table. Its cook says it beats every stove they've ever owned.
