Three boys and a washer from 1987

A family of five, three of them boys, so some days the Maytag runs more than once. It has done their laundry every day since 1987. A few years back it went in for service, and the mechanic told them appliances built this well don't get made anymore. Any appliance tech would say the same. Maytag top-loaders from those years had a real geared transmission driven off the motor by a belt, and nearly every part in one could be bought or rebuilt. The last time anybody asked, it was still kicking.
