1. Since 1963

   A 1,000-foot radio telescope dish in Puerto Rico

   Done for 2020

   The Arecibo telescope collapsed on December 1, 2020, when its 900-ton receiver platform fell about 450 feet into the dish. Two support cables had already snapped that year.

2. Since 1965

   The IRS computer system that holds individual tax accounts

   Still going

   The Individual Master File still runs on assembly language and COBOL. GAO called it 60 years old in 2025. The IRS started trying to modernize it in 2009.

3. Since 1999

   EverQuest, an online fantasy game

   Still going

   EverQuest is still getting expansions. The 32nd, Shattering of Ro, came out December 2, 2025, and raised the level cap to 130.

4. Since 2011

   Google+, Google's social network

   Done for 2019

   Google shut consumer Google+ on April 2, 2019. By Google's own count, 90 percent of user sessions lasted less than five seconds.

5. Since 100

   A Roman lighthouse on the coast of northwest Spain

   Still going

   The Tower of Hercules is the only fully preserved Roman lighthouse still used to guide ships. The bottom 34 meters are Roman. The top 21 were added in an 18th-century restoration.
