1. Since 1896

   An underground railway line in Budapest

   Still going

   Budapest's M1, the first underground railway in continental Europe, opened on May 2, 1896. It turned 130 in 2026 and still carries passengers every day.

2. Since 1995

   AltaVista, a web search engine

   Done for 2013

   Yahoo shut AltaVista down in 2013 and pointed the address at Yahoo Search. In 2000, 17.7 percent of internet users used AltaVista, versus 7 percent for Google.

3. Since 1984

   The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series 4x4

   Still going

   Still built. The 70 Series debuted in 1984, and a 2023 update gave it a 2.8-litre diesel with an automatic option. It is sold in Japan, Australia and Africa.

4. Since 1990

   A NASA telescope carried into orbit by the space shuttle

   Still going

   Hubble is still doing science. After a gyroscope failed in 2024, NASA set it to point using one gyro and keep the other two in reserve.

5. Since 1979

   A Sony Walkman that plays cassette tapes

   Done for 2010

   Sony stopped making cassette Walkmans in Japan in 2010 after selling about 220 million. The first one, the TPS-L2, went on sale July 1, 1979.
